These pictures were taken using film during the early 1990’s and were part of   a self-imposed project  that became  known  as ‘Autumn in the Forest’.  The woodland that I used for the project was near the town of Waltham Abbey in    Essex, and the birds that I photographed were common woodland species  such as Great Spotted Woodpecker, Robin, Nuthatch and Marsh, Coal, Blue  and Great Tits.  The reason for the project was that I wanted to find a way of photographing birds that  gave me more  scope for picture composition than just simple portraiture whilst still retaining a feeling of intimacy.
